Start Internet Explorer, under Tools, select Internet Options. Find the tab that has "Temporary Internet Files"; then press "Delete Files..."

well newer ones are better overall, but if your computer is too old, you may need to by a new processor and ram. just rebuild your computer from the ground up.

Many reasons .. the old one quit working .. it doesn't support the amount of ram you want or need .. it doesn't have the expantion slots you need or want ... etc etc ... The main reason is that as technology moves foreward in the respect of speed the CPU manufactures keep making faster n faster CPU's the older boards don't support them. There are so so ,any more i haven't listed Video,Sound,Networking,PCI,PCIe and so on and so on

My cd drive isn't working?

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 1525 a week ago and the cd rom drive worked fine until today. Whenever I insert a cd or dvd, it says "Insert a disc." I don't know what the problem is. I checked the device and it said it was fine.

Well, there's this script that can open it WITHOUT needing to press a button, I would post the file, or commands for the file, for odd reason however it is considered a virus, so I cannot post it. Good luck. Just type CD Opener Script on Google.

I'm trying to transfer a DVD onto my computer so i can convert the video to put it on my iPod. When I put the DVD in my computer, it wont show up. It's as if there's no DVD in my computer. Is there any way to fix this?

umm... make sure that your drive is DVD copatible, if it is, then it could be screwed up.

6gb Sandisk mini SD=2gb?

Alright so heres the run down, ive got a Sandisk mini SD HD, high capacity that is, card thats 6 gigs big. Now its always worked fine, but when i plug it into my laptop that runs vista, its saying that the card is only 2 gigs big, and literally wont let me put more stuff on it. i checked the specs on it again by putting it in my samsung a737 phone as well and sure enough it says its also a 2 gig. i know for a fact its a 6 gig but its only showing 2, any idea what the hells going on?

Reply:There are some issues with Vista and it's driver incompatibility. It could be that the driver running that card reader is windows vista generic and does not support HD cards. You might try going to the card manufacturer's website and downloading their drivers if they are compatible with Windows Vista.
Reply:First - Ive never heard of a 6GB of any type of memory cards or flash. They usually come in powers of 2 like

2^10=1G

2^11=2G

2^12=4G

2^13=8G

So the space in the cards double.

If you think that there is 6G on the card, and there may, i havent seen the package, heres a way that might free the rest up.

1) plug in your PC

3)right click and select Format

are we talking about the space here? hard disks are usually for space, RAMs are for memories. if you are talking about obtaining more space then you need to add another hard drive. you can also buy an internal hard drive if you want. if you want to add more memory, then you have to buy another stick of RAM.

if you're talking about yu tube, it may be that the video is still loading - if you put it on pause until it has loaded and then start playing it, it won't do that - or am i completely misunderstanding your question??!!

I own Vostro 1400. I don't have any problems with that. vostro is pretty heavy since it's designed for small business use.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 for around 7 months now. It is not my primary computer, but I do still use it often. Mine came with 2 GB of ram, a 120 GB hard drive. Other than those differences, mine has the same specifications as yours. I really like it, but I want to point out a couple things. When I ordered mine, different variations of the display were available. I went with the TrueLife WXGA display. While it is not bad, it is not the best either. I learned that I don't like the glossy screen used on the TrueLife display (although that is personal preference... some people love glossy LCD's and some hate them). Also, while every LCD screen I have ever used doesn't always display dark blacks or contrast dark colors perfectly, I noticed it was a bit more obvious this laptop display than my old laptop. However, I am not sure if using the WXGA+ or the WXGA monitor without TrueLife would change this or not. But do not take this as me saying the display is awful or un-usable. I am just saying I have used better.

When I got it, it had Vista Home basic installed, but it also had some type of dell media software that let you watch video/dvd's and play music on your computer without fully booting into windows. This is supposed to save battery life and be quicker than fully booting windows. However, to install this software at the company, they install the media software on its own partition. This makes it difficult to get rid of, if you don't want it and it also means that if you reinstall windows, you have to set it up before installing windows, if you want to get the paritition table write. While I could see how the software could be useful to some, especially while traveling, it was not useful to me. Also, it is based off Windows Media Player, so it only played formats supported by that.

The system has been extremely stable and has worked well for me. It did not come with a lot of annoying crapware or demo software that you have to install (unlike many other brands). I primarily use it for web browsing and programming, but I have done some light gaming on it. It is an excellent value and I would definitely get another Vostro 1500 if I needed another laptop. It has held up well, and the only thing that has changed is a couple of the labels on the bottom are starting to wear. Otherwise, I do not see any signs of wear or damage.

I am graduating next year and will then presumably get a notebook. If i were to get one now wouldi put myself at a disadvantage? Would i be much better off waiting?

Much better off waiting if you already have a desktop or other notebook that works. Notebook technology changes exponentially in a year (sound cards, video cards, etc.). Depending on what kind of school you are attending, it wouldnt put you at a disadvantage per-say. But it would help to have a more recent notebook going into college. I would assume, how would i know, im an eight grader!

All the technology that is commercialy viable in a year, is already out. But too expensive, or not commercially viable.

Like laptop blu-ray burners, they cost a zillion. Or laptop blu ray readers. You can get one now, if you want, but it'll cost you as much as a laptop. In a year, maybe blu-ray readers be semi-standard.

In short, the "technology" isn't going to change. You can see it 4-6+ years ahead, "cost" and "commercially viable" are the hindrances. ie: would you pay $400 more for a blu-ray reader in a laptop now? No, probably not, as DVD is the most popular. You can look at desktop technology, as it goes there first, and cheaper, and more commercially viable. (cause it's bigger physically and bigger market)

In a year, you can get a better laptop for same price than if you bought now. Same for year after that, year after that and that. Nothing "special" will happen, especially now with amd on the backpeddel from Intel, future laptops probably see quad cores from intel before amd answers back.
Reply:Here's the simple answer as I once read in an article that stuck with me: There's always going to be something new coming out and old things will always get cheaper. The problem is if you wait for either of those, next years items turn into this years dilema.

We are humans we want the best, but look at it this way. If you don't need it horribly right now. Wait. If you want it... Don't wait. If you wait hoping better technology comes out next year, then you'll forever be waiting.

There are tons of things in the computer industry that are out right now but are way too expensive for the general consumer to afford. So yes next year that 1 terabyte HD on a laptop will run the price a 250gb one does... But once that happens you'll see next years 2TB comp with that snazzy proccessor and go, "Maybe I should wait til that price drops." And of course the trend will pick up.

If you can afford it now, and it will keep you in good condition, and you want it... Buy it! Trust me by next year that laptop will still be decent and keep up with all the latest programs. And remember, you live today. Not tomorrow. You could win the lottery and not need to worry about how much money it costs tomorrow! So don't worry! Spend! Live!

You mean on the keyboard? Unless they broke the snaps for the keys they can likely be snapped back into place. Baring that a new keyboard will take care of it.

My neighbor has my computer and he is putting a new hard drive in it.us Hes also copying files from my old hard drive onto the new one. Reply:He doesnt have to look threw it, i know when i move hardrives over, i go threw mine to see wat i wanan keep, but if it is some1 elses i just get the computers at my work (computer technition) to do it straight, copying windows and all if they like, without opening one thing, most i would do is maybe scan it with a virus scanner (Kaspersky i use).
Reply:It depends on how he does it. If he just images the partition over then he won't see the files, unless he's nosy looking around your files. If he's copying them he'd be more likely to. The mere fact that he has your computer means he and he alone will decide if he sees them. Unless he's supervised.

could there be a problem with the drum or the brush which brushes away the excess toner? take a look but do it carefully because a scratch will cause serious problems.

Ok... so i ran down to Wally World and bought some Kingston RAM 2gb stick 667mhz 240 pin and my motherboard only supports 184 pin 400 mhz. So when I put it on the mobo i smelt fried components and the ram had some burn spots on the pins. So i was wondering if i could still use the RAM. The MOBO is toast.

Reply:Take it to your local shop and have it tested. I wouldn't stick it in a new mobo without it being tested.

Since the pins are physically wider and in different locations and also use different voltages and have the v+ in different locations, it's likely that you fried both.

The only way to tell is to take out the RAM and try turning on your machine with the old ram in it.
Reply:You should have checked the specs first. If you have a 184 pin RAM slot, don't buy 240 pin RAM. That should be a given.

it really sounds like your moniter is going out, but it could also be something else. I don't think there is a virus that would cause that to happen, but you never know because of all the new viruses created daily. but your best bet is to check the video card and reinstall the video card driver, if it's not that then it's more than likely your moniter.

If you can handle computer stuff, try the following out, else, leave it up to the tech guy and reach out for a few bucks!

1. Verify that all connections are secure; i.e., the cables are firmly attached to both ends. Also verify the power cable for loose connection.

2. If the problem persists, unplug the cable at the graphic's card end and verify if all pins are there, or if pins have been distorted. If that's the case, find some skilled person to make them straight again.

If pins have been removed, then try get yourself a new cable. Bring the faulty one along to compare with the new one though, because some connectors, by default, are not fully filled up with pins, they do have some empty locations.

3.Same prob? Disconnect all power connections. Then clean up inside your casing carefully. USE A CLEAN DRY NON-STATIC CLOTH or a CLEAN BRUSH. Dust away the graphics card and everything nearby. 'Unplug' and 'Replug' the graphics card. Secure all connections. Reconnect all power connections. Run the machine.

4. Prob persisting?? Try getting a functional monitor to test. If it works fine, your monitor is faulty.

5. If the problem persists, try swapping graphics card. But then test the graphics card with both monitors.

By now you should be able to know which is faulty, unless the monitor and graphics card you borrowed are both faulty!!!

6. If you still are having probs, then leave it up to the tech guy, coz it starts to get 'messy' from here onwards...

Since I connect new hard disk to the computer and remove older one so the computer is not detecting windows from new hard disk and whenever i connect old hard disk to the computer its working properly. Reply:The easiest way is to identify your motherboard and look up its CPU support list on the mobo manufactures web site. If they do not have that info, look at stores for the same board or boards with the same chipset for CPU support. Also identifying what socket you have will narrow it down considerably as well.

The best way to find out this info is to download CPU-Z, which is a simple little program that will answer all your questions:

-Under CPU tab and Package row, it will tell you your CPU socket.

-Under Mainboard tab look at Mainboard row to try and figure out what board you have. If that fails, go by chipset, which is a row bellow (don't worry about revisions).

As stated above look at websites to determine your CPU support. One last note, I'd do a BIOS update before putting a new CPU in, as support for new CPU's is sometimes added in newer BIOS versions.

Try going to your 'Control Panel' in Windows. Select 'Sounds and Audio Devices'. When the control loads, click on the audio tab on the control and see if it displays a pull down list of sound card devices. Select the default for your pc and then exit. See if that works. If that doesn't work, you probably have a conflict between the pci card and the default sound card.

It is possible, but not with all motherboards, or all soundcards. And certainly not with all operating systems.

It is a convoluted road to walk, and one that rarely repays the effort put in.

Can I ask, why would you want to do this? Might your need be better solved by a single better soundcard with more controllable outputs?

Windows ME is a really buggy OS. I had a copy and it would do crazy things that other versions of Windows didn't do. I have no idea how to fix that problem, but I suggest an upgrade to Windows XP before they're not sold anymore. You'd probably have to spend money to fix the current problem so a new OS wouldn't hurt.

If you have installed broadband, I guess you have a router. Though quite unlikely, it could be the router which is causing interference with the screen if they are quite close. Try moving the router farther from the screen and see what happens!

If our friend is right about the problem being due to the OS, try visiting Microsoft's Web Site and find out about ME's bugs. A solution could be listed there.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you call up a tech. Though I have no experience using ME, I don't think that such a problem is due to the OS.

You must be talking about the turbo c compiler or an old compiler.

Old compilers are 16 bit compilers this would probably not run in vista directly but might run in compatibility mode.

Use bloodshed dev c++ as an ide and any new compilers such as mingw32 or borland c 5.5((command line)) or even you can download microsoft visual c compiler (command line) for free.

No, not easily.

What you can do is try to erase all personal information - data files, IE caches, user profiles, etc.

Unfortunately Microsoft does not make it easy to find them.

Deleting a file does not actually wipe the file clean. To do that, you probably have to search for a file delete utility that does wipe the file clean.

Check with your buyer to see if the OS is really needed. Most people prefer to reinstall anyway, and many may have access to recovery disks through friends.

Will PCIe 2.0 improve my performance?

I recently bought a GeForce 9600GT for my computer. TigerDirect says mine (KFA2 9600GT Xtreme Tuner) should get 47 FPS in Crysis (1600x1200 medium). I tried the same exact card in 1680x1050 medium settings and I only get about 30 FPS. Then I realized that my motherboard only had a PCIe 1.0 (not 2.0) x16 slot. If I get a new motherboard with a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, should I see an increase in performance?

Probably no more than one frame per second at most. You get like a 1 frame drop from PCI-E X16 to X8. X16 is plenty of bandwidth so I sincerely doubt that's the problem.

It is probably that tigerdirect ran the test on an excellent system. Crysis surely responds to CPU, memory, timings, etc. So if they are running DDR3 @ 1800MHZ OC, Q6600 (or even a Quad Extreme) @ 3.4ghz+ with a $50 heatsink on a $200 X48 motherboard, they are going to have a serious performance advantage. So the benchmark they gave reflects more than the power of the card.

Look at this chart, it shows UT 2004 responds quite impressively to powerful processors. That said, UT2k4 isn't even a new or physics game, and Crysis is new, physicsy, and extremely demanding, so it will respond even more to CPU:

Every time I turn on my PC, I can never boot to XP. I've ran diagnostics tests for booting the OS, and have found two errors.

The first one is:

IDE DISK S/N - READ TEST

The second one is:

Everything works besides those two things. They both come up with error codes and the message that they give is:

yes "IF " you still have the start up CD. Drop in start up CD and try taking it through recovery console. if that don't work then get a UBUNTU disk (Linux CD) boot live to it and us its OS to recover all the data you want save to an external hardrive or disks. then do a clean install of XP all over again. If you comp wont boot from the CD go into the CMOS (F10) at first part of boot then tell your comp to look to the CD ROM drive as the first place to look for an OS. Save then exit.

Reply:from what I'm reading in the error message is that it's not your HDD but you have media in your CD drive.remove the CD/DVD.then try it again.It's sounds like it's trying to write to the disk/CD.

Enter into bios setup and check whether the hard disk is detected r not and if it doesn`t detects u cannot go further.

if u hav installed any new drives (i.e cd/dvd drive) u need to select the jumper settings.change the new drive into slave by putting the jumper in right side(jus read on the label).

Connect ur hard disk into another system check whether it is detecting r not.if it detects take a backup and format the disk and install freshly.

Hey guys, I've just bought a new laptop. It's an Inspiron Dell 1525. For some reason, my laptop freeze every time I turn it on. I ran a diagnostic test, and found out the error code 0142 and 0146. I have a mac OSX something or other, i believe its a 1,4 or 1.3 tiger version, I had Just World Of WarCraft (WOW) installed, and it opened worked fine, then i installed the expansion, upgraded my account, and then tried to open WoW and bam, nothing! Sounds like the expansion install didn't complete properly, try a fresh install, that may solve the problem.

Reply:the only os's i can think of would be mac and linux. last time i checked linux was free so you would save a lot of money. if you're in the work force however, or have a lot of documents and files, linux is no good. i just bought a cheap little EEEpc with linux and its great for just internet, but is no good for anything else.

if i were you, i would forget about the extra cost and go with the market- windows makes us think its the best but it is really simple to operate. in the long run, if you have this laptop for a couple years the extra few hundred you spend wont have a huge long term effect.

i dont know how but im sure theres a way to put mac on a pc so you could try that too.

LCD Display problem?

I recently purchased a monitor from ebay (refurbished, so that shouldn't be a problem, but it might).

So I hooked it all up today, and it came on

properly. For about a second.

Then it went black, but the monitor said it was displaying what is being sent to it, and that it's not asleep.

I also noticed later that when turning the monitor on and when it goes black, it makes an odd popping noise. I'm wondering if a circuit is being over loaded somehow.

I'm pretty sure everything is hooked up correctly. I even used the cables from my other monitor that was working, and my new monitor still didn't work.

I'll probably end up talking to the seller and sending it back, but first I wanted to see if anybody else has had this problem.

About a year ago I remembered some of the old games from the macs in elementry school like oregon trail and I wanted to find them again, so I went on ebay and bought an iMac G3 333MHz with 32MB RAM and Mac OS 9 for $11. When I got it it had 288MB RAM and Mac OS X 10.3.9! I put a 40GB hard drive in to replace the 6GB and it runs really fast, but if I have run some programs like iPhoto and iMovie it gets very slow and also youtube will load a video but it cant keep up and it has like .5 FPS. Is there a way I can speed things up (espesially youtube) also if i run only iphoto and nothing else its fine. if I cant its fine cuse i decided to stop using PCs and completely switch to mac and will get a new one soon. thanks if you can help.

My macbooks battery isn't charging?

it recognizes that it's plugged in. The light on the plug is green, and at the top in the power bar it has the little plug symbol. However, if it's clicked on, it says in gray in the dropdown list "battery is not charging". If I use the button on the back of my laptop, it has 0 power. Well if your battery isn't plugged in all the way, then it wouldn't charge. also are you sure it says that it isn't charging? is seems that it would be all right if is says ithas all that. Your fan motor may have burned out. Or the wires might have become disconnected. F.Y.I. That fan is what keeps your computer from frying. If you don't turn it off, it will ruin the motherboard. Not much to fix.

Go into your BIOS settings. This varies for all motherboard types but go into your temperature settings (Where it displays how hot the CPU, GPU, Fan RPM etc). Go right to the bottom and change CPU Fan warning to "DISABLED". If you can't find it, Just browse through the BIOS until you find something with "CPU FAN WARNING" or similar. By default, it should be set too something around 800rpm.

Depends on what he likes to play. That is ok for most games, but 60 GB won't hold much these days. If he likes advanced 3D games, then you should go with more RAM.
Reply:OK, hard drive size tells how much stuff the computer can hold; and size of memory, along with CPU model and clock rate, tells you how fast the machine can be running. For an 8-year-old, 60GB HD is good enough, but 512MB Ram may be kind of too small for Windows XP, not mention Windows Vista. 1G should be the minimum.

Also note that laptop computers, with great convenience coming from mobility, are usually outperformed by Desktop ones in same price range. For a same price, desktop can do EVERYTHING better than laptop except for mobility. So if you are not planning to move the computer around, you can consider buying a much better PC which is a desktop. You got bigger screen, bigger RAM, bigger hard drive, stable hardware, everything.

Reply:It is a good starter machine for a 7 year old, but whether or not it is enough really depends on what types of games he will be playing. The more RAM, the faster it will go. If the games aren't too graphically advanced, then I would say yes, but still upgrade the RAM to 1GB. It's not expensive at all, and it's really a pretty easy install.

it really depends on what the games are that he likes to play.

512meg and 60gb is ample for xp, for basic older games.

if he likes to play thelatest first person shooters its a totally different equation.

If you could provide a list of the games he wants to play someone could advise you as to whether the machine will run them. it would also be useful to know what the graphics chipset is and what ghz the cpu is inthe machine you are looking at.

Its really important to know the specifics because these are what will determine whether the machine is capable of doing what you are wanting it to do.

60gb hard disks are not coming now a days.I will recommend 160gb SATA hard disk(bcoz writing speed of sata is 1.5gb per sec).it will cost around 2500/- bucks only.It will b for ur future use also.Now-a-days motherboards are coming with only one ide port in which u need to connect hdd and cd drive.the system may slow down with alternate power supply which may lead to crash.

the second one is way better... trust me.... even though the processor is kind of iffy... its comparable to the X2 5000+ since intel has a more effiecient architecture (design)

I would state for the record that despite Intel Core 2 architecture being somewhat more efficient than AMD 64, the 5000+ will mercilessly kick the **** out of the E2140.

That said to game on Vista, 4gb of memory is really recommended, the Intel board is probably more upgradable/future proof, and it has more HDD space. Both have garbage graphics, so you will need to upgrade to be able to game decently. I recommend the Radeon HD 3850. It's a fair bit cheaper than the 9600 GT and this overclocked version probably only lags by about 7%, and is a good investment.

If you want a step up, don't bother with the 9600GT, just move directly to the 8800 GT:

If either of those too much for you, you can move down to the 8600 GT GDDR3, but it's maybe 1/2 as fast as the HD 3850 at best, and represents a significant reduction in performance per dollar:

The 8600 GT will play the games you want decently, the HD 3850 and 8800 GT will play them well. The 8800 GT is about 20% faster than the HD 3850.

One warning is that RTS depend heavily on both CPU and GPU, so you may want to upgrade CPU's at some point. One other note, the E2140 can overclock to like 2.8ghz easily, so that could really help you gaming.

Again, I recommend the Intel machine, the X2 5000+ isn't even the black edition, and the AMD machine has nothing else to offer as both integrated gfx will suck.

You need to clear CMOS data. You could either use the CMOS jumper switch (usually near the CMOS battery) or just remove the CMOS battery for about 30 seconds then put it back. Battery looks like a silver coin at lower right portion of motherboard. Then power ON your PC and press Del or F2 to open BIOS menu. Load fail-safe defaults, save and exit.

How can I delete programs on my laptop???

My laptop only has 200MB left and I have been trying to delete programs but most will not uninstall because they say that "No installation package found" or "Program is being used" or even "Access is Denied Make Sure the Disk Is Not Write-Protected". I have gone to "Add/Remove Programs" and it will not delete. I have even downloaded REVO UNINSTALLER but it won't delete them either.

Nothing I seem to do will make more room. I have even ran defrag and disk cleanup. If I am successful usually I will only free up no more than like 200MB. I want to free up like 1GB or 2GB.

Please help me out. Should I be deleting stuff from the C:Windows folder and not just th4e C: Programs folder?

Reply:if it the unstallation thing in the control pannel is not allowing you to remove any programs then there is a very high probability that you have a virus. other wise if there is the message 'program is being used' comes up, then make sure you arrent running that program, and make sure that on the task bar you try to exit all the program that are running. other then that you can go to control pannel and go to performance or maintenance and got to 'free up disk space' what that does is find all the useless junk on your computer (used by windows not you) and allows you to delete them. if you dont run that often then it is likely that you find like 1 to 2 gb in the compressed files section

You should download a uninstaller software and try to uninstall.

Use kaspersky antivirus to remove virus without deleting the files(bcoz it disinfects but other softwares delete the files).

The PSU has nothing to do with ATX or BTX.The only thing you must look after is-are all the cables the same-like SATA,IDE,4 or 8 pin GPU ,SLI ready etc.AND how many watts your new one has.Remember that the PSU's only put out about 85% of what is stated.

I know it's older than dirt, but it works , and I love old computers. This one has Windows 98 second edition. I am using it right now. I have never seen Windows 98 until yesterday! I am used to Vista.My other "antique " laptop has Windows 95.

Anyway, issue numberone: The screen works. It is a bit dark, but still very visisble. The bottom half of the screen is flawless. The top half is the problem. There are vertical lines acroos the entire width.

I currently have my spare emachines wide screen connected. But portable it is not!

Issue number two: I am connected to the internet via a USB cable.I

am wondering if I can get a wireless PCMCIA card for this? It has two slots.

issue 1 : when ever the screen is dim or dark it is the inverter that is at fault. verticle lines: it could be the inverter, but it is usually the lcd screen it self or the video card. since the laptop is old it has a built in video card (pretty sure), meaning if its the video cards problem, you will need to get a whole new motherboard, also small problems like loose connection to the main board could be the problem.

issue2:yes if it has a slot for pcmcia card, then putting in a the card should work. and you should be easily install a larger harddrive, but stay away from hard drives with rpm greater than 4200, because old laptops usually dont have enought power circulating through the mainboard, and most of the time cannot support speeds like 5400 rpm. for the ram, I am pretty sure the max you should be able install 512mb if not then 256mb (less likely)

My monitor does not display anything?

My computer has 512DDR1 RAM,80GB ATA HDD and Pentium IV with gigabyte motherboard in intel chipset.

First do what might sound obvious, but double-check and make sure all of your connections are complete (i.e.: make sure the plugs to your monitor and to your video card aren't loose in any way).

If you've double-checked the connections externally and they seem fine, but you're still not getting a reading, crack open your PC and make sure your video card hasn't come loose or dislodged from your PCI slot in any way.

If your chassis will allow it, turn on your PC while keeping the side panel open so that you can see what's going on inside.

Does your video (graphics) card have its own fan? If so, is it running? If not, your video card might be burnt out and might need replacing.

If you or a friend have an extra PC, try your monitor on their PC and see if you get a signal. If so, at least you know your monitor is okay and can focus on your video card.

OK, MAC usually gives you better display which are very good for your eyes. MAC seldom crashes. MAC are free from virus, adware, spyware and hacker attacks. However, MAC usually costs more and is not compatible with Windows which is still the predominant OS in market.

If you want to buy PC for both work and everyday use, and if you are looking for one with highest performance-to-price ratio, I would recommend Acer. For great design, go for Sony. For solid performance, take HP or Dell. Good luck.

Also note that for same money, you can get a MUCH MUCH MUCH better desktop. So laptop provides mobility with compromise of performance.

Acer or Asus are really good companies for laptops. Look for the Centrino label (don't confuse this with the Celeron label). And avoid vista at all costs. Unless your laptop has a core 2 duo processor setup. Then go nuts with the vista.

Toshiba makes a powerful laptop but they tend to overheat.

If you're worried about straining your eyes, just make sure the laptop can handle a 120+ FPS output.

Mac are junk. Good for graphic design, bad for anything else. But if you're in graphic design and like headaches, go nuts.
