Asking for remarks on the performance of ASUS EeePC
Is ASUS EeePC worth every penny?
I have the one with the small screen. Others have a full screen.
My issue was connection problems.
In network connections I had to go to properties and change to WPA and click on enable
The screen is hard to read and the keyboard is a hunt and peck style. It is only for travel and emergency.
Is ASUS EeePC worth every penny?
People who are looking for "performance" do not generally spring for underclocked 800 Mhz processors.
The ASUS Eee PC is only "worth every penny" if you are looking for an affordable and very portable laptop. If you are looking for a gaming machine, or a place to store all your movies and music, the Eee will be useless to you.
Reply:Well I have one. I bought it on E-Bay. Its the 702 model AMP'd up a little. It has an 8 Gig SSD with a 16 Gig High Speed SD card for a 'D' drive. It has Windows XP loaded into it.
I've used it already on business trips. It's great for traveling, it's so small I just put it into my carry one bag. The wi-fi connection in the hotel was also awesome. Although if you have Linux in it, you may have troubles at times since Linux programmers still don't have the wi-fi world 'fully wired' yet!
I went and bought an extra 16 Gig USB flash stick for it too for extra storage., though I doubt that I will need it. Except for my music files.
OK performance: It'sgreat as a computer for regular computer tasks. There are some tricks/utilities one can do to over clock it for playing games. From what I understand, Asus has it underclocked out of the box for heat control reasons. Something like underclocked to about 350 or so. I would think that if a person used a 'cooling platform' under it they could ramp it up a bit! You will find these methods on youtube. Just search for eee pc and you'll be in Eee PC heaven.
The keyboard layout is a little fraggled on the right hand side so it's hard to type without looking cause not all the keys are in the 'memorized' place.
The biggie is the battery. It sucks! Mine has the whimpy 4400 mh battery. It's good for about an hour then you have to go find a plug. I see there's an after market battery out there of 7500 mh. Hot Dang! But for me it's a lil pricey. ...Maybe when I get a lil money ahead ..... I'm not sorry I bought it. It's a fun little computer with tons of potential. I mean just look at what others are thinking up to do with it ...it's awesome! I like mine!
