Powering a UPS?

When the power goes off and the UPS eventually dies i connect it to the generator but it does not power up. How long does it have to be connected before it is working and I can switch on my PC etc.

if your UPS dies and you try to bring it up through generator it wont help. Generator generates lot of sine waves which kills the charge in battery.

It is advisable that you put your UPS on generator much before it dies. Else you need to wait for the mains to come and bring batteries back to life with some charge upon it.
Powering a UPS?
A generator produces DC current....but your UPS is meant to be run on AC....so u can not charge your UPS using a generator
Reply:Generators can produce AC power (how else would it power up things in your house?), but it's not really clean power. Certain generators produce more "dirty" power than others and the UPS senses this and will not take a charge from the "dirty" power.

To make it simple, Universal Power Supplies generally don't like generators.
