Cannot boot to OS?

Every time I turn on my PC, I can never boot to XP. I've ran diagnostics tests for booting the OS, and have found two errors.

The first one is:

IDE DISK S/N - READ TEST

The second one is:

IDE DISK S/N - VERIFY TEST

Everything works besides those two things. They both come up with error codes and the message that they give is:

"uncorrectable data error or media is rite protected."

Is there anyway I can fix this without having to buy a new hard drive, or anyway to boot to XP without these errors?
Cannot boot to OS?
Restart in safe mode.
Cannot boot to OS?
reformat your computer (but first, save everything to a memory stick in safe mode)
Reply:from what I'm reading in the error message is that it's not your HDD but you have media in your CD drive.remove the CD/DVD.then try it again. It's sounds like it's trying to write to the disk/CD.
Reply:Hai,

U jus change the cable and try to boot.

Enter into bios setup and check whether the hard disk is detected r not and if it doesn`t detects u cannot go further.

if u hav installed any new drives (i.e cd/dvd drive) u need to select the jumper settings.change the new drive into slave by putting the jumper in right side(jus read on the label).

Connect ur hard disk into another system check whether it is detecting r not.if it detects take a backup and format the disk and install freshly.
