Why would i need a new motherboard and whats the difference between a newer on and a old one?

well newer ones are better overall, but if your computer is too old, you may need to by a new processor and ram. just rebuild your computer from the ground up.

newer motherboard will accommodate newer technology that fits into newer slots. processors, ram and video cards have specific slots that should be compatible with the board.

Many reasons .. the old one quit working .. it doesn't support the amount of ram you want or need .. it doesn't have the expantion slots you need or want ... etc etc ... The main reason is that as technology moves foreward in the respect of speed the CPU manufactures keep making faster n faster CPU's the older boards don't support them. There are so so ,any more i haven't listed Video,Sound,Networking,PCI,PCIe and so on and so on
